Some immediate revelations from “return to office”

I’ve returned to the office yesterday after 18 months, and immediately realised…

  1. I felt fresh !— waking up, getting ready to look good, the travel, grabbing a cup of coffee, greeting colleagues. All of these activities combined, made me feel fresh and alive, a relief from the work from home slumber.
  2. Only Office work! :( — The moment I was back at my workstation, I realised I can ONLY do office work from now on. I can’t browse through the online courses on Udamy while my code runns, nor can I read so many articles anymore. Most importantly I can’t binge on Netflix in the background (common we all do it! )
  3. Ahh, the timings— While working from home, I usually log in before my team does and log off when I finish all of the work, no matter how late it gets. But, going to the office regulated my working hours. I couldn’t travel so early, nor could I stay back till late. So there was an end for once, for once I said “I’ll provide this by tomorrow” instead of “will get back on this by EOD”
  4. Travel isn’t bad people — I take the office cab, so this might not be relatable to people who drive. Looking outside the window and getting bored felt like meditation, I could have taken a few calls during that time, but I chose not to. It is very relaxing and I highly recommend it. It might not be the most productive way to spend one’s time, but it was a break from constant distractions

So my overall experience was pretty mixed, I enjoyed the privacy and alone time I got at home, but stepping out in the morning and returning tired in the evening made me feel alive again.

What do u think? How was your WFH or RTO experience?
